DAUGHTERS OF THE SACRED HEART

ABOUT US

We are an international congregation of consecrated women. We were founded in the year 1903 by Servant of God Mother Maria Teresa Nuzzo in the Island of Malta. As years passed by, the congregation grew and spread to other parts of the world.

After the foundation, the sisters were mainly involved in teaching catechism, schools and children's home. The main focus was on the girl child. Following the signs of time and the needs of our today's world, we have ventured in other ministries e.g health care, social work, agricultural projects and like.

CHARISM:

Charity in simplicity and humility.

In all our ministries we endeavor to make known and loved the Sacred Heart of Jesus as we also spread the devotion to the Sacred Heart.

As we serve different people of God, we seek to do so in humility and simplicity motivated by the universal love of the Sacred Heart.
SPIRITUALITY:
Spirituality of the Pierced heart.

As DSH, we try to reach to the minority in the society and find ways of helping them live dignified lives as fellow human beings. For instances, in our different ministries, we identify those who are needy either spiritually, materially or emotionally hence rendering to them the necessary support. We do so by creating networks with different persons (Benefactors), Foundations, Donations and the like.

Initially, our main focus was on the girl child in the aspect education given that at the time of our foundation, girls were not being taken to school. Currently, with the signs of time, we are caring for both genders e.g. we take care of street boys whereby we try our best to counsel them and take them for rehabilitation and for those who can still go back to school, we look for people of good will who can sponsor them, as we also take others to polytechnic to acquire some skills.

We are also working with the elderly by giving them foodstuffs monthly.

LIFE

One may ask, What is life? Well, depending on which phase one is in life, may somewhat seem like the determinant of what life is.  But all the same we are all to live life to the fullest, giving the best of whatever we are and have. No matter what comes our way we should not give up or allow tough  experiences to knock us down. We should strive to become better persons in our society and seek to lift each other. We are to journey together hand in hand and whenever one is struggling we should check on him or her to see to it that no one is left behind. Always keep in mind that, "if you want to go fast, go alone, but if you want to go far, go together!" Stay blessed and motivated...life is a journey...we are all at different stages...ENJOY where you are and BE THE BEST!!

 CATHOLIC FAITH

The Church is One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic. We believe that it was instituted by Jesus Christ Himself when He made one of His disciples the rock of the church i.e. Simon Peter who became the first Pope and from there the rest of the Popes.

The Pope is the Head of the Universal church - he represents Peter himself. He gives guidelines to the entire of God. The Local Ordinary work closely with him and advices him when necessity calls.
